Captain (Rtd.) Samuel Kofi Akomea-Agyin was born on Friday, 11th April 1930, in Adansi Anyinam in the Ashanti Region of Ghana — into a respected royal and Christian family. His father, James Kwabena Asaim Deituo Akomea-Agyin, affectionately known as Nana Asaim Deituo, was the Anyinamhene and a devoted Elder of the Methodist Church.
His mother, Elizabeth Ama Aku Mintaa Carr, nurtured him with love and strong Christian values until her untimely passing when Samuel was only nineteen years old. From those early days of loss and hardship, he forged a life that would become a beacon for everyone around him.

Born in Adansi Anyinam
Born on Friday, 11 April 1930, into a respected royal and Christian family in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. His father, Nana Asaim Deituo, was the Anyinamhene and a devoted Elder of the Methodist Church.
Early Years
Scholar Against the Odds
Invited by Rev. Grant to live in Obuasi to pursue his education, Samuel passed the Common Entrance Examination but was denied secondary school by financial hardship. He became a pupil teacher and independently earned his O-Level qualifications while teaching at Bodwesango, Fomena, Sanso, and Akrokerri Methodist School.
Military
Distinguished Officer
Entered the Ghana Military Academy and rose through the ranks with distinction. He served at Takoradi Barracks and Burma Camp, participated in Congo (Katanga) peacekeeping operations under Colonel Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, and furthered his military education in London before being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and later promoted to Captain.
1966
Transition to Civilian Life
Following the 1966 military coup, Captain Akomea-Agyin resigned from the Ghana Armed Forces and transitioned into civilian life with the same determination and professionalism that had defined his military career.
2000
Public Service
Offered himself for public service by contesting the Fomena Parliamentary seat on the ticket of the Convention People's Party (CPP), demonstrating his enduring commitment to the development of his beloved Akrokerri and Bobriase community.
2026
Entered Eternal Rest
Captain (Rtd.) Samuel Kofi Akomea-Agyin passed into glory on 21 April 2026 — ten days after his 96th birthday — leaving behind a legacy of faith, discipline, sacrifice, and love that will inspire generations.
Having personally struggled to obtain an education, he made it one of his life's greatest missions to ensure that every one of his children received the educational opportunities he had been denied. He sacrificed tirelessly to provide for his family — four of his children became medical doctors, others engineers, pastors, nurses, and entrepreneurs, all serving humanity around the world.
His home was built upon discipline, faith, respect, and responsibility. He demanded excellence — not out of harshness, but from a conviction that character and education were the foundations of a meaningful life.
He was a devoted family man whose love, generosity, and sense of responsibility extended far beyond his immediate household. He opened his home and shared his resources with members of his extended family, helping educate and put many of them through school, and continuing this legacy of care by supporting some of his grandchildren through their education.

Captain (Rtd.) Samuel Kofi Akomea-Agyin leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond military rank or professional accomplishment. His life tells the story of a young boy who overcame poverty, educational barriers, and personal tragedy through determination, faith, discipline, and hard work.
He embodied the saying that one's beginnings do not determine one's destiny. His unwavering commitment to education changed the trajectory of his family for generations to come.
He will be remembered as a devoted father, a respected military officer, a gifted playwright, a faithful Christian, and a well-accomplished man whose integrity inspired all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life remains a testimony to perseverance, service, honor, and faith.
